Summary. We examine the zeros of the function g(z) = z + βe −z where β ∈ C. In particular, we discuss the movement of the zeros as β moves over straight lines through the origin and find that all the zeros of g(z) are in the left half–plane if and only if |β | + | arg β | < π/2. 1 Introduction: A
