Abstract

We identify and analyze potential solutions to route IP packets between ground users via a LEO or MEO satellite network. We analyze through simulation the performance of two routing approaches in a polar LEO satellite constellation with inter-satellite links and onboard routing. The first approach is based on AODV (reactive MANET routing protocol), and the second employs a custom algorithm that utilizes the connectivity topology characteristics of the constellation and use of tunneling to cope with satellite handovers.
