Fabrication of Composite LSCF-SDC Cathode Coatings by Plasma Spray Processing

Abstract
Composite cathode coatings were fabricated by plasma spraying mixtures of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (LSCF) and Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-δ (SDC) powders. These electrodes were fabricated using plasmas with low powers. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were performed to determine how the relative deposition efficiency of the materials is influenced by the process parameters and the relative particle sizes of the feedstock powders. The microstructures of the electrodes were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. Although pure SDC adhered poorly onto substrates, the SDC phase could be incorporated into a composite coating using low power plasmas.
