Abstract
El diploma “Gorgas” en Medicina Tropical de la Universidad de Alabama en Birmingham (UAB) Estados Unidos, es la instancia academica de mayor relevancia para medicos clinicos, en este tema a nivel del continente Americano. Es desarrollado en Sudamerica, donde existen numerosas zonas endemicas de infecciones tropicales, cuenta con profesores internacionales poseedores de experiencia clinica y cientifica, en el campus de la prestigiada Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia(UPCH) y con el apoyo del instituto de medicina tropical” Alexander Von Humboldt”. Su principal caracteristica es ser un diplomado eminentemente practico, con actividades de laboratorio y rondas clinicas, evaluando pacientes afectados por las enfermedades tropicales con apoyo de clinicos expertos, en hospitales de referencia para las ciudades Peruanas de la costa(Lima), Sierra(Cusco) y Selva Amazonica(Iquito).En la version 2012 la participacion incluyo alumnos de Sudamerica(Chile, Brasil), Norteamerica (Canada, Estados Unidos), Africa(Kenia, Etiopia, Nigeria), Europa(Inglaterra, Italia, Alemania, Francia, Suiza)y Asia(India, Japon).Esto permitio un fluido intercambio de experiencia y conocimientos, enriqueciendo el proceso academico, considerando que nos desempenamos en diferentes especialidades y ambitos de la salud publica o privada de nuestros respecticos paises, con realidades absolutamente disimiles. Debido a las migraciones y a viajes de turismo o turismo aventura, existe riesgo de contraer enfermedades infecciosas tropicales en esos paises, con el consiguiente desafio clinico.
