Abstract
Die Atopie (Synonyme: Atopische Dermatitis, Umweltallergie) ist laut aktueller Expertenmeinung eine aufgrund einer genetischen Veranlagung entstehende juckende und entzündliche Hautkrankheit mit charakteristischen klinischen Symptomen. Sie ist häufig gegen Umweltantigene (Pollen von Bäumen, Gräsern und Kräutern, Hausstaubmilben, Vorratsmilben und Schimmelpilze) gerichtet und bewirkt die Bildung von spezifischen (besonderen) Antikörpern im Organismus. Die Definition „Atopie“ unterliegt ständigem Wandel, weil die durch immer feinere diagnostische Mittel gewonnenen Erkenntnisse eine kontinuierliche Anpassung des Begriffes fordern. Beim Ausbruch der Erkrankung spielen viele Faktoren wie z.B. vererbte Veranlagungen und die Rasse des Hundes eine Rolle. In Deutschland sind unter den Hunderassen der Deutsche Schäferhund, Golden Retriever und Labrador, West Highland White Terrier und andere Terrier sowie Boxer und Dalmatiner häufig von Atopie betroffen.
