Abstract
´FACESome scientists stand out for their achievements and their ability to inspire students and colleagues.Re´gis Simard (1956Á2002) was one of these scientists (see In Memoriam, Can.J. Soil Sci.82: 269Á270).During his short research career, he influenced the direction and momentum of his scientific community.The Canadian Society of Soil Science (CSSS) recognized the contribution of Re´gis Simard to soil science in Canada on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of his death.A Symposium was held in his honour at the 2007 CSSS Annual Meetings, held jointly with the Association que´be´coise des spe´cialistes en sciences du sol (AQSSS), at Station Touristique Duchesnay, Ste-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, Que´bec.Three of Re´gis' colleagues were invited to give presentations on nutrient cycling in agricultural soils, a subject dear to Regis' heart.These presentations were subsequently written up as review papers, and are now published as a Special Section in the Canadian Journal of Soil Science.
