Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

HUME, in his essay, Of the Populousness of Ancient Nations, makes the following reference to Strabo: The ATHENIANS, says STRABO, gave to their slaves, either the names of the nations whence they were bought, as LYDUS, SYRUS; or the names that were most common among those nations, as MANES or MIDAS to a PHRYGIAN, TIBIAS to a PAPHLAGONIAN.1 [my italics] [T]he Attic people were wont either to call their slaves by the same names as those of the nations from which they were brought (as ‘Lydus’ or ‘Syrus’), or addressed them by names that were prevalent in their countries (as ‘Manes’ or else ‘Midas’ for the Phrygian, or ‘Tibius’ for the Paphlagonian).2 [my italics]

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
