Abstract
Fissure rock grouting was required to extend the cut-off under secant and diaphragm walls, as part of the temporary works for Bukit Panjang Station, part of Singapore's new Downtown subway line. Typical Swedish rock grouting methods were proposed, including grout testing methods such as the filter pump. It was the first application of such methods in Singapore, and differences in climate and labour skills had to be considered. A sequence of tests was carried out to develop suitable grout mixes for local conditions. This was followed by a full scale trial section to demonstrate that the mixes and grouting sequences would be effective in reducing the permeability of the Bukit Timah Granite.
