Abstract The scenario provides real-life training of acute hemolytic transfusion reaction (AHTR) in an anesthetized patient. Central to the experience is learners' ability to connect the hypotension and urine color change in an anesthetized patient to AHTR. The aim of the simulation is to teach the learner the appropriate actions in management of AHTR, develop the techniques that allow efficient communication with the operating room and transfusion personnel in a critical situation, and recognize the need to call for assistance early in the event. The simulation scenario has been successfully utilized for the education of anesthesiology residents at the University of Minnesota Anesthesiology Department. All participants receive a simulation evaluation form following the training.
