Abstract
La critique universitaire a révélé depuis longtemps le rôle que joua Marguerite de Valois, sœur du roi Henri III et épouse de Henri, roi de Navarre, dans les affaires politiques de son temps. Elle a notamment bien mis en valeur les interventions multiples de cette princesse au cours des Guerres de religion, et souligné le rôle que joua son mariage avec Henri de Navarre pour favoriser le rapprochement entre les factions catholique et protestante. La correspondance copieuse qu'elle entretint avec les membres de la Cour et les dignitaires du royaume,1 mais aussi ses Mémoires,2 ont mis au jour la part qu'elle prit dans les tractations politiques pour réduire les divisions entre catholiques et protestants. Œuvrant en pleine lumière, elle s'attacha avec perspicacité à défendre les intérêts du parti du roi, son frère, et de leur mère, Catherine de Médicis, tout en ménageant les impatiences et la colère de son époux.
