Domain Dynamics in Thin Solid Films Following Ultrashort Pulse Excitation
Bibliographic record
Abstract
MnAs epilayers grown on GaAs are used as a model system to study the effects of strain and epitaxial constraints on the dynamics of structural domains following 150 fs pulse pumping. Optical diffraction over 7 orders of magnitude of time is used to probe the evolution of the domains that are spatially periodic between 10 and $42\text{ }\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}\mathrm{C}$ because of misfit strain and substrate mediated periodic elastic strain. Following excitation of 150 and 190 nm thick films, the domain fractions and the elastic strain oscillate with an $\ensuremath{\sim}400\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ps}$ period while the average low temperature phase fraction decreases monotonically for $\ensuremath{\sim}2\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ns}$ reflecting MnAs heat diffusion. Equilibrium structures are restored in $100\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ns}--2\text{ }\text{ }\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{s}$ via substrate heat diffusion. Excitation of transient periodic domains from the homogeneous low temperature phase can occur for temperatures as low as $4\text{ }\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}\mathrm{C}$ but only after $\ensuremath{\sim}20\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{ns}$ during film cooling.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
