L’objectif de cet article est de contribuer aux discussions méthodologiques sur la cohérence interne de pratiques ethnographiques dans des sociétés lettrées et d’ouvrir quelques pistes pour l’entrée sur le terrain et la recherche impliquée en milieux communautaires. Après avoir tracé à grands traits l’histoire de l’ethnographie et rappelé l’origine des recadrages méthodologiques en cours, l’auteure présente quelques-uns de ces recadrages, en les illustrant d’exemples tirés d’une recherche sur la culture de l’écrit d’organismes communautaires québécois oeuvrant en insertion de jeunes adultes peu scolarisés. Elle présente la référence implicative (Kohn et Nègre, 1991) et s’appuie sur la triade « donner-recevoir-rendre », développée par Marcel Mauss, pour approfondir la compréhension de l’implication. L’auteure porte une attention particulière à l’entrée sur le terrain en lui donnant une interprétation large qui tient compte de l’ethnographie du proche où les ethnographes franchissent régulièrement le seuil de l’extérieur vers l’intérieur et de l’intérieur vers l’extérieur. Elle ouvre quelques pistes de réflexion sur le rôle de l’écrit dans l’entrée sur le terrain et dans l’implication soutenant que dans les sociétés pluriculturelles la culture de l’écrit n’est pas la même pour tous les groupes sociaux.
