Le mondial et le local. Basket-ball et rugby à 15 professionnels à Pau : analyse comparative des publics de spectateurs

Abstract
La ville de Pau (France) abrite deux clubs sportifs de très haut niveau : l’Élan béarnais (basket-ball) et la Section paloise (rugby). Les trajectoires historiques des deux disciplines et la place qu’elles occupent dans les espaces des sports régionaux, nationaux et internationaux construisent des rapports fondamentalement différents à l’égard du processus d’internationalisation et de professionnalisation du spectacle sportif. L’analyse comparative des publics de ces deux clubs permet d’appréhender la dynamique locale ou régionale en matière de spectacles sportifs professionnels. L’assistance au spectacle sportif est ici analysée en termes de consommation culturelle et de style de vie. Les résultats montrent que la composition sociale des deux publics et leurs rapports aux équipes diffèrent sensiblement. Le public du rugby exprime plutôt une conception très « territorialisée » du « local » tandis que celui du basket-ball accepte le processus d’internationalisation de la discipline.
