Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

TO THE EDITOR: We thank Scott et al.(1) for their interest in our recent study (2) that examined the acute response of bone turnover markers to a single bout of resistance training (RT) or plyometrics (PLY). We appreciate the acknowledgement of the strengths of our study design: we attempted to control for the effects of nutritional status and time-of-day variation on serum markers of bone turnover by comparing fasted and fed exercise trials and by including a fasted, no-exercise control trial, respectively. Ideally, we would have also included a fed, no-exercise control trial to examine the relative influence of feeding vs. exercise on COOH-terminal peptide of type I collagen (CTX) or osteocalcin (OC); however, it is worth noting that nutritional status, i.e., feeding vs. fasting, did not affect the postexercise response of TRABP5b, bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP), cortisol, PTH, or testosterone.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
