が両国の女性研究者の研究交流やア ウトリーチ活動を支援するプログラムであり、私 は幸運にも平成 21 年度の派遣者の一人として、ケ ベック州・モントリオールとオンタリオ州・オタ ワを訪問する機会を得た。私の現在の研究分野の 一つは、 「宇宙医学生物学教育プロジェクト」であ る。サブタイトルの「Universal Universe」は、誰 もが宇宙をつかえる時代が来ることを願う気持ち をこめてつけた。 "つかえる"という言葉に、私は 二つの漢字を当てはめたい。一つは「使える」 。研 究の場として、また、文化創造の場として、誰も が使える宇宙を望む気持ちから。二つ目は「仕え る」 。宇宙で行われた研究や開発技術が、地上の私 たちの生活に役に立つ成果として還元されるべき であると思う気持ちからである。今回、この事業 に応募するにあたり、 「情報提供しなければフィー ルドの選択肢としてすら考えてもらえない。だか ら"宇宙医学生物学"という分野の情報を、宇宙 時代を迎えるこれからの科学者の卵となるべき学 生たちに提供したい」という抱負を掲げた。 2 カナダでの活動 2.1."2 つの言語と 2 つの文化"
