Yet, prognostic tools predicting the likelihood of erectile function after RP are lacking. We developed a pre-operative nomogram to allow accurate prediction of the likelihood of erectile function within two years following RP. METHODS Patient and surgical parameters were recorded prospectively in all patients undergoing RP between 2006 and 2009 at our institution. RP consisted of either wide/standard vs. inter/intra-fascial nerve-sparing technique. Sexual function was assessed using the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) score. Exclusion criteria included patients undergoing salvage prostatectomy, patients that were not sexually active, those lacking a pre-operative SHIM score, as well as patients who did not complete at least 2 years of follow-up. Logistic regression was used to model the likelihood of achieving a SHIM score of 18 or greater for 1351 men completing 2 years of follow-up. RESULTS Pretreatment SHIM score, age, nerve-sparing technique and hypertension represented independent predictors of functional erections two years after RP and constituted the nomogram predictor variables (Figure). The predictions from the nomogram appeared to be accurate and discriminating, with an internal validation sample area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.72. CONCLUSIONS Pretreatment SHIM score, age, hypertension and nerve-sparing technique are independent predictors of erectile function two years after RP in our patient cohort.
