Key Messages An enhanced postal code geocoding approach improves positional accuracy compared to the traditional approach. The improved geocoded postal codes were in closer proximity to residential areas by approximately 25 m at the urban level and 300 m at the rural level for Ontario. The improvement in positional accuracy can potentially reduce bias and false conclusions in public health and other population‐based studies.
