Abstract
L’analyse comparée d’un spectacle photographique de Gustave Marissiaux intitulé La Houillère (1905) et d’un film produit par Pathé la même année et consacré à l’univers minier ( Au pays noir , de Lucien Nonguet et Ferdinand Zecca) montre non seulement que le clivage des supports de projection correspond nettement à un clivage social, mais aussi que ce clivage est esthétique : le réalisme photographique du documentaire industriel est aux antipodes du réalisme social – mais théâtral – du drame cinématographique. Néanmoins, ce constat permet de revoir l’histoire du cinéma minier des premiers temps (jusqu’à Germinal d’André Capellani, 1913) comme une intégration progressive du réalisme photographique et du réalisme social.
