La première partie de ce mémoire en recherche-création est une photofiction intitulée : Qu’importe – une faute au texte. Située à Montréal, l’histoire est celle d’une déambulation sur l’île, d’un amour réciproque entre ville et personnages, celle de la liberté d’agir, de voir et d’aimer. C’est une plongée dans Montréal par les yeux. Une série de photographies, tantôt imbriquées, juxtaposées, apposées, tissées, imposées dans le texte, participe à l’intrigue par un dialogue entre texte et image. Plus qu’une simple parenthèse, elles dépassent l’illustration pour devenir elles-mêmes le récit. Ainsi, l’histoire est-elle celle de la trace des personnages, d’un tracé de la ville à travers une multitude d’écarts. C’est Montréal vue par ses habitants. Ils se vouent à Montréal sans s’y mêler. Ils la parcourent les bras grands ouverts, l’embrassant de toutes parts, tout en cherchant à s’y enraciner. Suit, Mécanismes et dialogisme photographique, un essai portant sur deux photofictions québécoises de l’auteur André Martin : Crimes passionnels et Darlinghurst heroes et sur ce que peut apporter la photographie au récit lorsqu'elle n'est plus confinée à sa fonction d’illustration. Dans un premier temps, j’interroge la photographie dans sa relation au texte, d’un point de vue narratif. Ensuite, j’étudie la présence du photographique dans le texte : subjectivité, allusions textuelles, procédés d’évocation picturale, texte-photo et photo-texte. Je termine en questionnant ce que j’appelle la fonction « parenthèse » de la photographie, son caractère amovible, la nécessité de la relation au texte : « auxiliarisation », obligation, collision, contradiction, collaboration, temporalité. À terme, il s'agit d'un travail critique sur les deux œuvres dans la perspective de participer à l’élaboration d’une bibliographie photolittéraire et favoriser une reconnaissance de son existence dans la littérature québécoise.
