Este texto pretende contribuir para a interligação das ideias de nação, império, colonialismo, regionalismo, museologia, e discurso e poder no contexto do século XX português. Para tal, utiliza como cenário físico e simbólico o Portugal dos Pequenitos, parque construído em Coimbra, entre 1938 e 1962. O objetivo é debater o papel desempenhado por este parque com componente museológica, num período de plena afirmação do Estado Novo, mas igualmente explicar a sua edificação no âmbito da obra político-sanitária da Junta de Província da Beira Litoral (a instituição de política regional de maior importância à época) e do plano holístico do seu presidente, o médico Bissaya Barreto (1886-1974). Assim, partindo de um ponto de vista arquitetónico, são analisadas as características físicas deste espaço, tendo em conta a sua relação com a Exposição do Mundo Português (1940), as implicações simbólicas das construções, os subtextos da sua representação e o perfil do seu arquiteto, Cassiano Branco (1897-1970).
