Cet article montre l’importance de l’enseignement du théâtre social dans les cours d’art dramatique à l’école secondaire. Ce type de théâtre suit les orientations actuelles pour l’éducation civique. Dans chaque production théâtrale, l’élève est vu et engagé en tant que citoyen créateur qui se mobilise pour transformer l’école et la communauté. Pour expliciter cette démarche, l’article est constitué de trois parties. La première présente les concepts généraux du théâtre social à l’école dans une perspective pédagogique et esthétique du processus d’enseignement en classe. La seconde affirme que cette création théâtrale mobilise les élèves en tant qu’investigateurs, citoyens engagés et créateurs interculturels. Pour conclure, quelques exemples d’activités sont proposés, lesquels valorisent les approches pratiques afin que les enseignants puissent les appliquer en classe. Cet article pose un regard sur l’école actuelle qui commande de nouvelles façons d’amener les jeunes à l’action citoyenne à travers le théâtre social.
