Bibliographic record
Abstract
(This article deals with the phenomenon of Antoine Volodine, one of the most provocative and arguable writers in contemporary French literature. His novels are plentiful of the surrealism elements and appear on the merge of science fiction, dystopia, political and historical fiction. His innovative style of writing and original philosophical position attract huge attention of French, Canadian and Belgian critics; however it is almost ignored in Ukrainian literature research. In his novels Antoine Volodine creates a hyperrealist fictional universe abundant in fantastical elements, black humor, references to real wars and disasters of the 20th century. After analyzing the author`s philosophical, aesthetic and genre paradigm, Antoine Volodine`s key neologism «post-exotism» is examined. It is defined as a literature project realized by a community of authors (all being heteronyms of the same writer) with Antoine Volodine playing the role of their ‘mouthpiece’. Therefore the problemof the author`s positioning within the scope of French postmodern discourse is revealed. The analyses of writer`s methods (i.e. discursive multilevel crossing, hybrid narrative forms, hyperbolic style, phantasmagoric chronotope, myth-making trend, intertextuality and metatextuality, polyphony, heteronyms, so on) identifies that Antoine Vlodine`s poetics is on the merge of two main modern literature trends – modernism and postmodernism. An attempt is taken to prove that such methods are typical for the modern literature paradigm and correspond to the fundamental intention of postmodern literature – searching new poetic forms and writing methods on the ground of previous literature experience. Finally, we might conclude that Antoine Volodine`s novels may be referred to the discourse of postmodernism (maximalist fiction).)
