Abstract
As Universidades e Escolas Promotoras de Saúde (UEPS) constituem outro projeto de ambientes favoráveis à saúde da autoria da OMS, inspirados na Carta de Ottawa e no sucesso de iniciativas similares. Nas últimas duas décadas, o número de instituições de ensino superior de todo o mundo que aceitou odesafio das UEPS não parou de crescer. As congéneres portuguesas não têm sido indiferentes a este movimento global em expansão, sendo possível encontrar importantes iniciativas no âmbito da promoção da saúde caracterizadas, no entanto, por algumas insuficiências que as afastam da operacionalizaçãode um projeto de UEPS. Este artigo procura contribuir para o debate sobre o movimento das UEPS em Portugal e apresenta os argumentos de base à promoção da saúde neste contexto, exemplifica iniciativas de promoção da saúde protagonizadas por (e nas) universidades e escolas superiores nacionaise desafia‑as a tomar medidas catalisadoras da aproximação ao movimento global das UEPS.
