Tecnicas de modelo mixto se usaron para analizar caracteres relacionados con el crecimiento de crias caprinas mestizas, en un experimento realizado en el Campo Experimental “Loma de Leon”, FONAIAP-Barquisimeto-Venezuela, durante el periodo 1969 a 1978. Para el analisis de peso corporal (kg), a distintas etapas de crecimiento, de 1468 crias nacidas en el Campo Experimental, durante el periodo senalado, se formaron tres grupos contemporaneos. grupo I (1969-1974): 1/2 Nubian 1/2 Criollo (ND), 1/2 Alpino 1/2 Criollo (AD), 1/2 Toggenburg 1/2 Criollo (TD), 3/4 Nubian 1/4 Criollo (NND) y 3/4 Alpino 1/4 Criollo (AAD). grupo II (1971-1978): 3/4 Nubian 1/4 Criollo (NND) y 7/8 Nubian 1/8 Criollo (3ND). grupo III (1975-1978): 1/2 Alpino 1/4 Nubian 1/4 Criollo (AND), 1/2 Nubian 1/4 Alpino 1/4 Criollo (NAD) y 1/2 Nubian 1/4 Toggenburg 1/4 Criollo (NTD). Los pesos totales de la camada al nacer y al destete para los tres grupo fueron: 5.7, 15.1; 5.4, 14.7 y 5.6, 13.8. Los indices de repetibilidad fueron: 0.26, 0.036, 0.22, 0.053 y 0.16, 0.13 respectivamente. Se detectaron relaciones positivas y significantes entre peso de la camada al nacer y peso de la madre postparto.
