Abstract
El ancylostoma es mas frecuente en perros que en gatos pudiendo contagiarse mediante la ingestion de huevos o a traves del calostro. Las larvas recien eclosionadas pueden penetrar la piel. Los adultos viven en la luz del intestino delgado en donde se enganchan a la mucosa y segun sea la especie, se alimentan de trozos de mucosa intestinal o de sangre (Nelson y Couto, 2010). Las larvas tambien pueden penetrar en los vasos sanguineos y migrar hacia pulmones. Las larvas pueden viajar a diferentes organos, donde pueden persistir en un estado hipobioticas. Estas etapas latentes pueden reactivarse durante la gestacion y luego puede ser secretada hacia la leche (Steiner, 2008). Se asocia a enteritis hemorragica, siendo el Ancylostoma tubeforme el mas habitual en gatos y el Ancylostma brasiliense en perros en el sur de Estados Unidos. Uncinaria stenocephala es el anquilostoma de perros en Europa occidental pero surge en el norte de Estados Unidos y Canada (Ettinger y Feldman, 2007).
