Abstract
Le quartier Saint-Michel est marqué par une forte histoire de conflits entre ses citoyens et la Ville de Montréal au sujet des nuisances provoquées par la carrière Miron. Le dense milieu communautaire michelois et son mode de gouvernance locale sont issus de cette action collective conflictuelle qui s'est étalée sur au moins trois décennies. Malgré un contexte de mixité sociale et différentes vagues d'immigration, il y a une cohésion sociale forte dans le quartier Saint-Michel. Un sentiment d'appartenance important et des valeurs communes sont également partagés par les citoyens. Ce milieu communautaire bien structuré a non seulement permis au milieu de recevoir la Tohu 1 , partie intégrante de la Cité des arts du cirque, mais a également permis aux citoyens de s'approprier et de profiter, dans une certaine mesure, des retombées de l'implantation d'un tel équipement dans le quartier.
