Abstract
The marketing tactics adopted by Merck for its cervical cancer vaccine, Gardasil, in Canada, Australia and New Zealand which includes using its successful non-profit partnership model to push for mandates of the HPV vaccine at the state level, Women in Government, an industry-funded network of women state legislators which proved a willing and able channel to influence policymakers across the country is discussed. It is stated that by over hyping its potential, Merck is contributing to a dangerous misconception and creating the risk that women will feel it is less important to have regular Pap screenings.
