Abstract
Cet article a pour objectif de présenter l’état des lieux de deux discours sur la littératie en L2 des immigrants adultes qui co-existent actuellement au Canada : 1) le discours autour des habiletés et des pratiques (réelles et/ou déclarées) de littératie et 2) le discours et les actions politiques qui visent l’acquisition du bi- ou du multilinguisme par cette population. Cet examen fait ressortir un certain manque de congruence entre, d’une part, les visées politiques et d’autre part, les besoins des immigrants en matière de littératie en langues secondes ; ce qui est susceptible de causer, pour certains groupes d’immigrants, une participation limitée à la société canadienne.
