Treatment of 56 Cases of Chondromalacia Patellae by Manual Therapy and Herbal Hot Compress

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effects of manual therapy and herbal hot compress in the treatment of chondromalacia patellae.Methods 108 subjects were randomized into two groups:treatment group in which 56 cases were treated by manual therapy and herbal hot compress and control group in which 52 cases were treated by local infrared irradiation,with a course of one month.Results After treatment,the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index reduced obviously in the two groups,with more significant reduction in treatment group than in control group(P 0.05～0.01).Conclusion Manual therapy and herbal hot compress is rather effective for chondromalacia patellae.
