Abstract
As one of the dimensions of social relationships,ethnic relationship is an important research area of relational sociology. The paper explores social barriers faced by mainland Chinese immigrants in Canada and the emergence of new racism,and analyzes changing features of ethnic relationship under new social and historical contexts.Most recent mainland Chinese immigrants are well trained and experienced professionals seeking new opportunities.However,many of them are disappointed and frustrated because they have not been able to achieve a satisfactory social and economic status in Canadian society.This paper reviews the trends of recent mainland Chinese immigration to Canada and examines obstacles that mainland Chinese immigrants face in integrating into Canadian society.Theoretical debates on the issue of occupational attainment for professional immigrants and covered racism will be addressed.
