Abstract
The self-government was established in accordance with the 1763 Royal Proclamation and the treaties between Canada and the aboriginal people.The modern idea of aboriginal self-government was spread in Canada and gradually accepted by Canadian Government after World War II.The 1982 Constitution of Canada confirmed aboriginal rights,but the specific contents of them are yet to be defined.The current policy of the government recognizes the right of self-government of the aboriginal people as a constitutional right and sets up several principles and a framework to enforce it.But the aboriginal people have to stagger on their road to self-government since the current policy is not entrenched by legislation.
