Au Québec, la formation professionnelle se divise entre le « professionnel » au secondaire et le « technique » dans les cégeps. Ces cursus se font presque exclusivement en milieu scolaire et sont sous le quasi-monopole du réseau de l’éducation. Les intervenants du marché du travail y occupent un rôle assez marginal, bien qu’ils contribuent à l’identification des compétences nécessaires pour occuper un métier. Dans un contexte de croissance à prévoir d’embauche de main-d’œuvre diplômée au plan professionnel, plusieurs acteurs appellent à une réforme d’un système d’éducation qui a peu changé depuis les années 1960.
