Study on the effectiveness and sustainability of implementing 100% condom use programme in entertainment establishments

Abstract
Objective: To explore the running model of implementing 100% condom use programme (100%CUP) at existing policies and regulations,so as to providing information for the formulation of HIV/AIDS policy and its intervention strategies. Method: Female sex workers (FSWs) were interviewed at their working places using the face to face interviewing method with structured questionnaire and samples ,which were collected for detection of STI before and during implementing the 100%CUP. Results: The consistent condom use rate at the last sexual relation with clients increased from 74.9% during the baseline survey to 92.3%. The rate of STI prevalence drops from 25.1% to 14.1%. The number of condoms distribution increased from 5,000 a quarter in 2001 to over 10,000 a quarter in 2003. The rates of awareness on the knowledge of STD/AIDS prevention and behavior congnition increased sharply. Conclusions: The 100% CUP is feasible and effective, and it could be sustained and expanded in entertainment establishments.
