Fractal dimension values of each type of forest cover and total forest area are calculated at Luoning county in Henan province in 1983 and 1999. Furthermore, properties of fractal geometry of forest cover and its change are discussed. The research indicates that the forest cover has statistical self similarity and its fractal dimension value is a kind of random fractal geometry. Fractal dimension is the characteristic parameter which generally shows the information of the forest cover and its changes and the threshold of fractal dimension is 0 D 2. Bigger fractal dimension value indicates that the forest spatial distribution is more irregular and more complex. The quantity of fractal dimension has no direct relation with the forest patch and the average area of each patch, instead it is the comprehensive index of them.
