Abstract
Dorothy Livesay,as one of the most important Canadian poets,made great achievements in her long writing career.Her poems may be divided into four catalogues: those advocating Marxism and revolutionary spirits,those criticising social problems,those debating about ethnic issues,and those probing into women studies and gender discrimination.In those poems,Livesay deals with the bitterness of the people and many social problems,with frankness and passion,thus showing her unique poetics of poetry serving politics.An analysis of her political poetry may help us get a deeper understanding of the perfect combination of her poetics with her political issues,as well as a better appreciation of her poetic conceptions and the social significance of her poetry.
