Bibliometric analysis of literatures correlated with disease of synovial membrane from 1995 to 2004

Abstract
Objective To comprehend the progress of researches on synovial membrane and its related diseases and to speculate their developmental trends.Methods MEDLINE search was conducted to retrieve the papers published between 1995 and 2004 under the main headings on synovial membrane.Authors and their address,languages of articles,sources and counties of publications,heading frequencies of minor MESH headings,major MESH headings and checktags were analyzed statistically.Results There were 8890 papers in MEDLINE from 1995 to 2004.All papers were published in 22 languages,on 1 201 journals.Seventeen authors published more than 40 papers,and 18 authors published more than 10 papers as the first author.Four thousands seventy-three papers on synovial membrane with rheumatoid disease and 1095 papers on them with osteoarthritis were found.There are 7704 papers on them about human,1862 papers about animals in the Checktags,and 219 papers about horse,651 papers about mice in minor MESH.Conclusion Literatures of researches on synovial membrane and its related diseases mainly come from United States,England,Germany and Canada.English is the major language in the literatures.Arthritis-Rheum and 9 other journals are 27.31% of all in the literatures and important journals about researches on synovial membrane and its related diseases.Gay,S and 16 other authors are prolific authors,and published more than 40 papers.The researches on synovial membrane with rheumatoid are hot topics;however,with osteoarthritis and degenerative disease are more less.
