Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of music therapy on pain of breast cancer patients after radical mastectomy.Methods A total of 120 female patients with breast cancer hospitalized for radical mastectomy were recruited and randomly divided into two groups.In addition to routine care,the patients in the experimental group received music therapy twice a day and 30 minutes per time from the first day after radical mastectomy to the third time of admission to hospital for chemotherapy.Pain was measured repeatedly on the first day after radical mastectomy,the day before discharged from hospital,the second and third time of admission to hospital for chemotherapy by using Short-Form of Mcgill Pain Questionnaire(SF-MPQ).The pain scores were compared between the two groups by using repeated measures ANOVA.Results There were significant main effects of time(P0.01) and groups(P0.01),as well as an interaction effect between time and group(P0.01).Conclusion Music therapy can reduce pain sensitivity and alleviate pain as well as has satisfied long-term therapeutic effects for patients with breast cancer after radical mastectomy.
