Purpose:To find out the reasons of seed dormancy of Polygonatum sibiricum Red.Methods:Study on water absorption rules in Polygonatum sibiricum Red.seeds,bioassays of endogenesis inhibitors of seed coat,endosperm and embryo as well as tissue culture etc.Results:Polygonatum sibiricum Red.seeds had slow water absorption,and there were endogenetic inhibitors exist in seed coat,endosperm and embryo of Polygonatum sibiricum Red.seeds.In addition,there were differences in germination when the different treatments of Polygonatum sibiricum Red.seeds were carried out tissue culture.Conclusions:This results suggested that water absorption barriers of endosperm and endogenetic inhibitory substances might be the main reasons of long period dormancy,uneasy germination and low germination rate of Polygonatum sibiricum Red.seeds.
