Abstract
This paper reviews the developments of research on built-up timber members in wood-frame constructions.First,it was shown that built-up timber members have some application advantages in wood-frame constructions.Second,the portfolio of the foreign scholars' research on built-up timber members was introduced.The types of columns included in the investigations are: layered,spaced,box and braced columns,etc.The discussion is mainly focused on the methods of theoretical analysis and design of built-up timber members.Obtained related main research results of built-up timber members with nail connections.At last,this paper indicates the current situation of designing built-up timber members in the National Design Specification for China and Canada Wood Construction and some problems which need to be further studied.
