Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of partial splenic embolization in treatment of autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Methods: A catheter was inserted from right femoral artery to the splenic artery branch,in monitoring of X ray.First a preliminary contrast was injected. second a second contast injection was given to observe the size of spleen, third the sterilized gelatin sponge was injected.Finally a second contrast injection was given to estimate the embolized area,which was about 50%-80% of spleen.Results: Blood hemoglobin level increased from 3 day after operation and reached more than 100g/L within one month.Except splenic abscess which occurred in one patient, the other four patients had only a mild abdominal pain and a slight fever.Conclusion: Partial splenic embolization is a satisfactory procedure for treatment of autoimmune hemolytic anemia, Which can avoid the risk of severe side effects of splenectomy and full splenic embolization.
