Abstract
In the United States,golf is a favorite leisure activity for many people;many golf enthusiasts enjoy this leisure activity but often with a serious attitude and their actual action.This study is dependent on the theoretical framework of Serious Leisure,developed in 1982 by Stebbins,a Canadian scholar;utilizing qualitative research to survey individual experiences and feelings of 20 subjects who were from Cedar Falls and Waterloo,in the state of Iowa,USA;the focus of this study is on six aspects of serious leisure theory which include perseverance,a leisure career,considerable personal effort,durable benefits,unique ethos,and identity formation.The purpose of this study is to probe why golf enthusiasts prefer this activity which can be enjoyed for many years and whether their individual feelings and experiences match with the six characteristics of serious leisure,as well as regarded as a serious leisure activity,and how the golf affects one's health and life quality.
