Abstract
PSCAD/EMTDC developed by Manitoba HVDC Research Center of Canada has wide applications in the power systems and the relevant areas and provides an efficient means for the simulation training of electrical engineering majors of colleges and universities.The application of PSCAD/EMTDC of education version is introduced in this paper to numerical analysis of overvoltage protection in power systems.The function of overvoltage simulation,system network elements,algorithm and simulative procedure of the software package are discussed in detail.Also,the numerical examples are given for simulating switching and lightning overvoltages.
