Abstract
The advances in the studies on the ethnic laws in foreign countries find expression in the expansion of research scope and methodology with more Chinese scholars involved.The recent major findings include the following: the studies on the legal systems under the guidance of the ethnic policies of pluralism in Canada,Australia,USA and others;the legal systems for the protection and development of minority cultures like the Samis in such northern European countries as Norway and Sweden;the various approaches like case study and comparative study with more emphasis on theoretical and speculative orientation which are different from the previous studies which focused on the description and analysis of some concrete legal systems.The existing problems include the following: the relatively poor quality and quantity of the relevant research and the practical implementation of the findings.
