Abstract
To survey the carrier frequency of bovine leukocyte adhesion deficiency(BLAD) in Chinese Holstein bulls,587 bulls from 14 bull stations were genotyped by RFLP-PCR.Eight bulls were identified as carriers,corresponding to the carrier frequency 1.36%. Pedigree analysis showed that these carriers originated from America,Canada and China,among which six carriers could be traced back to the common ancestor Osborndale Ivanhoe.Finally,several suggestions were given to effectively control this genetic defect and make use of the carriers.
