Abstract
American Protestant Episcopal Mission established St.John's College in Shanghai in 1879,and it developed into St.John University in 1905.In the period of St.John's College,it had formed the tradition of Whole English Teaching.The features of its English education were as follows: culture-orientated English education,immersion model of English teaching and various extra-curriculum English activities.The Analysis of English education in St.John's College will help us to have a better understanding of the relationship between language and culture,the relationship between language and environment,as well as the relationship between English language and other disciplines.
