Abstract

Objective To explore cognitive function assessed by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale(MoCA)in patients with pure depression.Methods The patients were single major depressive episode.Following an assessment of depressive severity by Hamilton Depression Rating Scale 17(HAMD17),the patients were divided into two groups:mild depression(7~17 scores,41 cases),moderate to severe depression(more than 17 scores,30 cases),and their cognitive function was evaluated by Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale(MoCA).Results In the moderate-severe depression group the MoCA's total score and some factor scores were significantly lower compared to the mild depression group and the control group respectively(P0.05),there was no significant difference between mild depression group and the control group.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors impaired cognition were depressive severity,age and years of education,with anxiety being the strongest influential factors among all factors of HAMD17.Conclusion Moderate or severe depression could affect cognitive function and anxiety factor was dominant.
