Abstract
Objective To discuss the efficacy of the open reduction and internal fixation in the treatment of femoral fractures(Vancouver type AL and B1) after total hip arthroplasty with cone shaped memory alloy plate with screw.Methods 5 cases of Vancouver AL and 4 cases of Vancouver B1 periprosthetic femoral fracture were treated with open reduction and fixation with cone shaped memory alloy plate with screws and Vancouver AL cases were used to steel wires bundled.Results All cases were followed up for 4 to 23 months with good bone union.The time from operation to bone union was 2~3.5 months.All fractures healed with no complication such as infection,nonunion or fixator breakage and no loosening of prosthesis.The mean Harris score was excellent in 7 cases,good in 2.Conclusions Open reduction and internal fixation for the treatment of periprosthetic femur fracture(Vancouver type AL and B1) with cone shaped memory alloy plate with screw can successfully restore function for Vancouver type AL and B1.
