Abstract
Depuis les accords de Marrakech, les conditions de l’internationalisation des compagnies ont incontestablement change. En depit des «nouvelles frontieres» de la strategie de developpement international (SDI), la tentation demeure cependant de reduire l'internationalisation des entreprises aux seules activites d’exportation. C'est-a-dire de conserver une vision mercantiliste du processus de developpement international, alors que l’internationalisation des PME est devenue une activite aux modalites diversifiees. L’internationalisation ne se limitant plus aux seuls flux sortants se definit desormais a partir d’approches plus complexes, empruntant trois dimensions: l’internationalisation mercantile (export-import), l’internationalisation organisationnelle (remise en cause des modalites d’organisation a des degres varies) et l’internationalisation technologique (capacite a maitriser et a maintenir l’avantage technologique). L’objectif de cette communication, qui s’inscrit dans la phase initiale d’un programme de recherche plus vaste sur les conditions permissives de l’internationalisation des PME, est d’abord de discuter les notions d’internationalisation et d’innovation dans le contexte de l’economie mondiale; de rappeler que la technologie, d’une part, et l’innovation, d’autre part, sont a la base des succes locaux, nationaux ou mondiaux; et de tenter de distinguer, a partir d’un modele simple teste sur des PMI canadiennes et francaises, si des modalites complexes d’internationalisation garantissent a certaines PMI un profil differencie. Since the Marrakesh agreements, the conditions for companies internationalization have undoubtedly changed. Despite the new frontiers of the international development strategy (IDS), the temptation remains however reduce the internationalization of companies to only export activities. i.e. to keep the international development process under a mercantilist view, as SMEs internationalization has become a real multivariate activity. Internationalization is no more limited to outgoing flows and sets now from more complex approaches along three dimensions: mercantile internationalization (export-import), corporate internationalization (questioning of the organizational to varying degrees) and technology internationalization (ability to control and maintain the technological edge). The objective of this communication which is part of the initial phase of a more extensive research program on the permissive conditions of the internationalization of SMEs is first - to discuss the concepts of internationalization and innovation in the context of the global economy, - to remember that the technology, on one hand, and innovation, on the other hand, are the basis of local, national or global success, - and to attempt to distinguish from a simple model tested on Canadian and French SMEs if complex modalities of internationalization guarantee to someSMEs a differentiated profile.
