ObjectiveTo investigate the psychology of coll eg e students during the outbreak of atypical pneumonia Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted during the outbreak of atypical pneumonia 2003, among 450 students, 281 males and 145 females, aged 18～22, of Chongqing U niversity located in a mildly epidemic area ResultsAbout 45 1% of the students used the adjective “tranquil” to describe their mind Mo re than a quarter of the students often suspected themselves of being infected 30 3% of them showed anxiety 33 8% of them preferred to stand the sickness for fear of being infected in hospital 31 7% of them were not willing to be i solated even if they was ill, only less than 1/3 of them were willing to obey th e comprehensive arrangement of the school ConclusionDuring a n emergency, the college students in China still fail to respond correctly It is necessary to strengthen mental health education among college students
