Motion Estimation (ME) can consume 70% (1 reference frame) to 90% (5 reference frames) of the total encoding time of the JVT codec. In this contribution we introduce a highly efficient predictive fast motion estimation algorithm that can considerably reduce the complexity of the JVT encoder (5 times on the average) with minimal loss in coding efficiency. Our algorithm mainly employs very robust and reliable predictive techniques, and could be adjusted depending on the encoding requirements.
